West Muskingum Schools to Host National Lab

The U.S. Department of Education, National Board for Professional Teaching Standards, and the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD), will hold a Teach to Lead Leadership Lab on Wednes-day, Jan. 17, from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., at West Muskingum High School, 150 Kimes Road. This leadership lab is one of three convened this year by Teach to Lead, along with over 150 supporting organizations.
In acknowledging teachers are the experts in their field and are best positioned to improve instruction, West Muskingum teacher teams and an administrator team will be designing their own 18-month action plans with complementary professional learning plans around a self-identified problem of practice.
“Teachers will be given autonomy and support as they design and implement this learning, The leadership lab will provide an opportunity for collaboration among high quality leaders from around the country, state and local community, and encourage participants to take ownership of their learning,” according to Kelli Wohlgam-uth, West Muskingum Curriculum Supervisor. “Teams of teachers and administrators will be designing their own professional learning around self-selected needs.
Teachers will make the decisions about their needs based on desired student outcomes and their data,” she added. The Teach to Lead initiative focuses on expanding opportunities for teacher leadership in ways that enhance student learning and make it possible for teachers to stay in the classroom while leading in the profession.
